Karen Fossum, RN, BSN serves as the Parish Nurse at Peace Lutheran Church.
Her duties include coordinating and carrying out health educational and promotional programs within the congregation that integrate faith and health. She assists the Pastor and Intern in visiting shut-in members, hospitalized members, and congregants recovering at home after hospitalization or rehabilitation stays. This includes overseeing the Care Card program which connects Sunday School students with elderly or homebound members of the congregation. She also acts as a health counselor for members of the congregation and others by discussing a wide variety of health concerns from medication management to wound care, serving as a health advocate, recommending medical intervention and making referrals as appropriate.
The Parish Nurse co-facilitates a Caregiver Support Group that meets at the church on the third Tuesday of every month at 2pm. The group often has scheduled speakers/presenters in to discuss topics of interest or concern to the group. Everyone who is involved with caring for a loved one in any capacity is invited to attend.
The Parish Nurse can be reached through the church office at 715-755-2515 or by email at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
